In 1966, Peruvian physician Javier
Cabrera Darquea was presented with a stone that had a carved picture of
what Cabrera believed to be an extinct fish by a friend for his 42nd
birthday. Cabrera's father had begun a collection of similar stones in
the 1930s, and based on his interest in Peruvian prehistory, Cabrera
began collecting more. He initially purchased more than 300 from two
brothers who also collected pre-Incan artifacts, who claimed they had
unsuccessfully attempted to interest archaeologists in them. Cabrera
later found another source of the stones, a farmer named Basilio
Uschuya, who sold him thousands more. Cabrera's collection burgeoned,
reaching more than 11,000 stones in the 1970s. Cabrera published a book,
The Message of the Engraved Stones of Ica on the subject, discussing
his theories of the origins and meaning of the stones. In this he argued
that the stones show "that man is at least 405 million years old" and
that what he calls gliptolithic man, humans from another planet, and
that "Through the transplantation of cognitive codes to highly
intelligent primates, the men from outer space created new men on
earth." The Ica stones achieved greater popular interest when Cabrera
abandoned his medical career and opened a museum to feature several
thousand of the stones in 1996.
Secrets of the Ica Stone and Nazca lines proof that dinosaur and man lived together. Dennis Swift
In the style of a riveting autobiographical detective story the authorreports convincingly about his more than 30 years of research on the origin, history and analysis of the enigmatic Ica Stones of Peru, South America.
The Ica stones are ancient river boulders of various sizes that have been etched with images on their surfaces. They have been excavated from Pre-Columbian Indian burial tombs in the desert of Southern Peru. Thousands
of them exist in public and private collections. All sorts of imagery
of ancient cultural life appear on these stone 'canvases.' Many of them show dinosaurs, some even with humans riding them or attacking them. The obvious conclusion observed here is evidence that dinosaurs and man lived at the same time, in the fairly recent past.
Mainstream scientific (evolution-based) response to the Ica Stones is that they must be fakes, made recently by local Indians for sale to gullible tourists.
However, tourists rarely even know they exist. The public collections
of them are typically hidden from view and private collections are
seldom seen or researched. There have been some fakes made but
it is easy to tell the difference between those and the real burial
stones. Any honest reader should be readily convinced that the Ica
Stones are genuine burial stones from the Indian tombs dating from as early as 500 B.C. to 1000 A.D
In 2008 a set of mysterious and
long-forgotten caves was rediscovered by a British exploration team
comprised of Andrew Collins, Sue Collins, and Nigel Skinner-Simpson with
the help of engineer Rodney Hale.
The caves were found through solid
background research and precise calculations based on stellar alignments
and a forgotten archaeological diary made by the British diplomat Henry
Salt in 1817.
After the discovery was officially
reported to Dr. Zahi Hawass, Hawass denied that the caves existed but
soon took a film crew into the cave system for a reality TV show.
In this intriguing documentary,
interviews with all of the team members are interspersed with
recreations of Henry Salt and actual film and photos of the cave system
under the Giza pyramid complex and its initial rediscovery.
The Voynich manuscript, described as "the
world's most mysterious manuscript", is a work which dates to the early
15th century, possibly from northern Italy. It is named after the book
dealer Wilfrid Voynich, who purchased it in 1912.
Some pages are missing, but the current
version comprises about 240 vellum pages, most with illustrations. Much
of the manuscript resembles herbal manuscripts of the time period,
seeming to present illustrations and information about plants and their
possible uses for medical purposes. However, most of the plants do not
match known species, and the manuscript's script and language remain
unknown and unreadable. Possibly some form of encrypted ciphertext, the
Voynich manuscript has been studied by many professional and amateur
cryptographers, including American and British codebreakers from both
World War I and World War II. As yet, it has defied all decipherment
attempts, becoming a cause célèbre of historical cryptology. The mystery
surrounding it has excited the popular imagination, making the
manuscript a subject of both fanciful theories and novels. None of the
many speculative solutions proposed over the last hundred years has yet
been independently verified.
The Codex Seraphinianus is kind of like a
textbook for a universe parallel to our own. Luigi Serafini, an
Italian designer and architect, finished writing and illustrating
the book in 1978. Strange diagrams and pictures accompany florid and
incomprehensible text, which defied linguists and cryptographers for
decades.
The
book's overall feel is like that of a child reading books intended for
adults. It seems clear that the pictures and words have a consistency
in meaning, but what that meaning might be is still lost on the reader.
The book was extremely rare for some time, costing anywhere between
$200 and $400. Library copies were very often stolen. In 2006, a
relatively affordable copy was produced and the Codex
Seraphinianus was widely examined for the first time.
What seems clear is that Serafini
was deeply influenced by the Voynich Manuscript. The Voynich Manuscript
is believed to have been written some time in the 1400s or 1500s and it
too was written in a mysterious language and accompanied by strange
diagrams and pictures. It too seems to be an encyclopedia for an
unknown world. The most skillful cryptographers and statistical
analysts in the world--from mathematicians to the CIA codecrackers--have
worked to determine the manuscript's cipher with no success. The
smooth ductus of the writer's pen and the indentation of letters suggest
the writer knew what he was writing. Closer analysis reveals patterns
in the words like that of a natural language. It is theorized that the
great court mystic, Roger Bacon, is somehow behind the Voynich
Manuscript. Though we don't know if he was the actual writer, he almost
certainly had the manuscript in his possession for much of his adult
life.
Serafini's language, on the other
had, appears to share certain traits with automatic writing. Though the
system seems undoubtedly complex, its lack of a coherent cipher, in
this case, suggests that the letters were chosen at random. Divided
into eleven chapters, the Codex Seraphinianus illuminates
subjects ranging from the biology of wonderous creatures to bizarre
social practices and complex machines used by a variety of different
humanoid races.
Serafini
never put a great deal of effort into hiding his authorship of the
Codex Seraphinianus. The surreal and often humorous depictions of
natural and social dynamics seem intended to poke fun at absurd aspects
of human social convention. Its bizarre illustrations have such a
strange resonance with our own world. It reminds me of what fellow
Surrealist Luis Buñuel once said when asked why he chose to make films:
"To show we do not live in the best of all possible worlds."

The Codex Gigas aka "The Devil's Bible"
It's a mysterious book that in its day
was believed to contain all human knowledge. But why did medieval people
believe that the author sold his soul to the devil to be able to write
it?
The "Devil's Bible," a behemoth volume weighing in at 165
pounds, believed to have been produced by a single monk over the course
of decades in the 13th Century, is the focus of a documentary that was
featured on the National Geographic Channel.

The disc of Phaistos
In a century which has seen the
cracking of Linear B, Ugaritic, and other orthographic systems, the
Phaistos Disk has eluded decipherment. The disk is thought to date from
around 1700 BC.
History
The disc of Phaistos is the most
important example of hieroglyphic inscription from Crete and was
discovered in 1903 in a small room near the depositories of the "archive
chamber", in the north - east apartments of the palace, together with a
Linear A tablet and pottery dated to the beginning of the Neo-palatial
period (1700- 1600 B.C.).
The exact location of Phaistos was first
determined in the middle of the 19th century by the British admiral
Spratt, while the archaeological investigation of the palace started in
1884 by the Italians F. Halbherr and A. Taramelli.
After the declaration of the independent
Cretan State in 1898, excavations were carried out by F. Halbherr and L.
Pernier in 1900-1904 and later, in 1950-1971, by Doro Levi, under the
auspices of the Italian Archaeological School at Athens.
The Phaistos Disk, today on display at the Iraklion Archaeological Museum, was discovered in Crete in 1908.
Although many inscriptions were found by
the archaeologists, they are all in Linear A code which is still
undecipherd, and all we know about the site, even its name are based to
the ancient writers and findings from Knossos.
According to mythology, Phaistos was the
seat of king Radamanthis, brother of king Minos. It was also the city
that gave birth to the great wise man and soothsayer Epimenidis, one of
the seven wise men of the ancient world. Excavations by archaeologists have unearthed ruins of the Neolithic times (3.000 B.C.).
During the Minoan times, Phaistos was a very important city-state. Its
dominion, at its peak, stretched from Lithinon to Psychion and included
the Paximadia islands. The city participated to the Trojan war and later
became one of the most important cities-states of the Dorian period.
Phaistos continued to flourish during Archaic, Classical and
Hellenistic times. It was destroyed by the Gortynians during the 3rd
century B.C. In spite of that, Phaistos continued to exist during the
Roman period. Phaistos had two ports, Matala and Kommos.
Since 1900, continuous
archaeological excavations from the Italian Archaeological School, have
brought to light the magnificent Minoan palace of Phaistos with its
great royal courts, the great staircases, the theatre, the storerooms
and the famous disk of Phaistos. The first palace was built at 2.000
B.C. This palace was destroyed at 1.700 B.C. by an earthquake. It was
built again, more luxurious and magnificent and it was destroyed again,
probably by another earthquake, at 1.400 B.C. The location of the
palace was carefully chosen, so as not only to absolutely control the
valley of Messara, but to also offer a panoramic view of the surrounding
area with the scattered villages, just like today, at the foot of the
mountains Psiloritis and Asterousia. The palace dominated and
controlled the Messara valley and it was the center of the city. It was
the administrational and economical center of the area. Goods not
only for consumption but mainly for trade were kept in its huge
storerooms. The palace was surrounded by luxurious mansions and crowded
urban communities. Along with the surrounding settlements covered an
area of 18.000 sq. meters. A paved road leads to the ruins of the Royal Minoan villa of Agia Triada, 3 km west of Phaistos.
Decipherment
Both surfaces of this clay disc are
covered with hieroglyphs arranged in a spiral zone, impressed on the
clay when it was damp. The signs make up groups divided from each other
by vertical lines, and each of these groups should represent a word.
Forty five different types of signs have
been distinguished, of which a few can be identified with the
hieroglyphs in use in the Proto- palatial period.
Some hieroglyphic sequences recur like
refrains, suggesting a religious hymn, and Pernier regards the content
of the text as ritual. Others have suggested that the text is a list of
soldiers, and lately Davis has interpreted it as a document in the
Hittic language in which a king discusses the erection of the Palace of
Phaistos.
In a century which has seen the cracking
of Linear B, Ugaritic, and other orthographic systems, the Phaistos Disk
has eluded decipherment. The disk is thought to date from around 1700
BC. It is a roundish disk of clay, with symbols stamped into it. The
text consists of 61 words, 16 of which are accompanied by a mysterious
"slash" mark.
There are 45 different symbols occurring
241 times. The symbols portray recognizable objects like human figures
and body parts, animals, weapons, and plants. Since the text of the disk
is so short, decipherment by the statistical cryptographic techniques
employed by Michael Ventris in cracking Linear B are impossible.
Late last year, however, Dr. Keith A.J.
Massey and his twin brother Rev. Kevin Massey-Gillespie discovered the
secret they believe provides the key to cracking the Phaistos Disk.
Another ancient writing system provides the key to reading the Phaistos Disk.
At Byblos in modern day Lebanon, an advanced culture flourished for
centuries. There are many signs of contact between Ancient Crete and
Byblos, including signs of orthographic borrowing as pointed out by
Victor Kenna in "The Stamp Seal, Byblos 6593" Kadmos 9 (1970) pp 93-96.
Further, examples of the yet undeciphered Linear A script have recently
been found in Turkey, providing evidence of orthographic relationships
between Crete and Asia Minor. The Proto-Byblic script was used in
the early part of the 2nd millenium BC, a time contemporary with the
supposed date of the Phaistos Disk. The underlying language of the
Proto-Byblic script was Semitic. It is a linear script which displays
many identifiable objects, like weapons, human figures, and body parts.
The Proto-Byblic script, catalogued by Maurice Dunand in the 1940's
bears striking resemblance to the symbols of the Phaistos Disk. The
similarity of one Proto-Byblic character to a Phaistos symbol was noted
by Dunand in his book Byblia Grammata, Beyrouth, 1945 on p 90, "Il est
presque identique a celui du disque de Phaestos qu-Evans avait identifie
avec une colombe." [ It is almost identical to something from the disk
of Phaistos which (Sir Arthur) Evans has identified with a dove.] Dunand
did not pursue his observation of the similarities, yet it is this
Proto-Byblic script which is demonstrated by the Massey twins as being a
closely related orthographic system to the Phaistos Disk. Eduard
Dhorme, one of the decipherers of Hittite, published the first
consonantal values for the Proto-Byblic script in SYRIA XXV 1946 in an
article, "Dechiffrement des Inscriptions Pseudo-Hieroglyphicques de
Byblos." A comparison of these values with the symbols of the Phaistos
Disk yielded consonantal assignments for a surprising amount of the
writing on the disk. It should be noted here that all previous
attempts to decipher the Phaistos Disk have been subjective attempts,
assigning phonetic values to the characters with no true objective
criteria. This is therefore the first effort at cracking the disk by
OBJECTIVE determinations. When these consonantal values are examined,
elements of an Hellenic language emerge in the text of the disk.
Scholars had never known what the significence of a mysterious "slash"
on 16 of the words of the Phaistos Disk. We observed, based on our
values, that each of these 16 words are numerals counting commodities on
the disk, similar to the majority of Linear B texts.
Lemuria, or Mu, is a mythical continent that allegedly was located in the Pacific Ocean area or the Ring of Fire.
Today we read about accelerating natural disasters in that area -
earthquakes, tsunamis - dormant volcanoes becoming active - as the
tectonic plates continue to shift. This takes us to creation myths - thousands of flood stories
around the world - the destruction of a continent and civilization by
water, and the creation of something new to replace it in the cycles of
time by the Consciousness Hologram that creates the illusion that this is all real.
The islands within the Ring of Fire have
ancient monuments, petroglyphs, and caves that hold clues to one of many
ancient civilizations that once existed there - the most famous Easter Island. The legends of Easter Island speak of 'Hiva' which sank beneath the waves as people fled.
Samoans speak of a place called Bolutu.
It was stocked with trees and plants bearing fruits and flowers, which
were immediately replaced when picked. On Bolutu men could walk through
trees, houses, and other physical objects without any resistance. The
Maoris of New Zealand still talk about arriving long ago from a sinking
island called Hawaiki linked with Samoan legends.
The legend of MU is found
on islands all over the Pacific Ocean. For thousands of years the
Polynesians have handed down the story of a continent in the Pacific
that was motherland of mankind. The name Lemuria resulted
from a Nineteenth Century controversy over Darwin's Origin of the
Species. Defenders of Darwin had trouble explaining how certain species
became distributed over large areas. Zoologists had a particularly
difficult time explaining the distribution of the lemurs. The lemur is a
small primitive form of primate found in Africa, Madagascar, India, and
the East Indian archipelago. Some zoologists suggested a land mass in
the Indian Ocean, between Madagascar and India, millions of years ago.
An English zoologist, Phillip L. Schlater, proposed the name Lemuria
(LEMURia) for this former land of the LEMURS in the Indian Ocean. Earnst
Heinrich Haeckel (1834-1919), a German naturalist and champion of
Darwin, used Lemuria to explain the absence of fossil remains of early
man: If man originated on a sunken continent in the Indian Ocean, all
the fossils of the missing link are now under the sea. To quote Haeckel:
"Schlater has given this continent the name of Lemuria, from the
semi-apes which were characteristic of it." Zoologists have now
explained the distribution of lemurs without resorting to the use of a
land bridge. And anthropologists have discovered many bones of ancient
man in Africa. However in the nineteenth century, Haeckel's theories
were widely read and respected. As a result, the name Lemuria was well
known among educated people in Europe and America.
Madame Elena Petrovna Blavatsky (born
Helena Hahn 1831-1891), the founder of Theosophy, in her book The Secret
Doctrine (1888), claimed to have learned of Lemuria in The Book of
Dzyan, which she said was composed in Atlantis and shown to her by the
Mahatmas. However, in her writings she did give Philip Schlater the
honor of inventing the name, Lemuria. Mme Blasvatsky located her Lemuria
in the Indian Ocean about 150 million years ago. She may have obtained
her ideas of a sunken land in the Indian Ocean from Sanskrit legends of
the former continent of Rutas that sank beneath the sea. But the name
Rutas sounds too spiritless and uninspiring to have held such a
prominent place in cosmic history. She described the Lemurians as the
third root race to inhabit the earth. They were egg-laying beings with a
third eye that gave them psychic powers and allowed them to function
without a brain. Originally bisexual, their downfall came about after
they discovered sex. The English Theosophist W. Scott-Elliot, who said
he received his knowledge from the Theosophical Masters by "astral
clairvoyance", writes in The Story of Atlantis & The Lost Lemuria
(1896), that the sexual exploits of the Lemurians so revolted the
spiritual beings, the Lhas, that they refused to follow the cosmic plan
of becoming the first to incarnate into the bodies of the Lemurians.
Scott-Elliot located his Lemuria not only in the Indian Ocean: He
described it as stretching from the east coast of Africa across the
Indian AND the Pacific Oceans. In this century, writers have increasingly
placed Lemuria in the Pacific Ocean. Even psychics and modern prophets
channel beings who were citizens of Lemuria. Today just about everyone
who has heard of Lemuria assumes that the legends of Mu are identical
with the English zoologist's land of the lemurs.
In 1995, off the coast of Japan near
Okinawa large underwater structures were found that could be the remains
of a castle. The architecture resembles the architecture of nearby
castles still on land. The sites are under research by Professor Masaki
Kimura, marine biologist of the University of Ryukyus in Okinawa.
Professor Kimura believes that the structures must be manmade by a lost
civilisation. They even found roads underwater that prove they must have
been manmade. Professor of Geology Teruaki Ishii at the Tokyo
University suggest that the structures must be dated back to 8,000 B.C.
Others believe that they are much older and may well be 12.000 years
old. In March 1995 in another location in the waters of Okinawa divers
found the remains of an ancient city spread over an area of hundreds of
square kilometres. They found streets, boulevards, arched structures,
staircases carved out of stone and welded together. A few months later
off the shore of the island Yonaguni, 300 air miles south of Okinawa in
shallow water they even found a huge underwater pyramid! The news about
the underwater city and the pyramid made headline news for more than a
year in Japan but this striking news fact has been totally neglected
outside of Japan. Speculations are that the remains that are found are
remnants of the legendary civilization of Lemuria or Mu.
Rising nearly 400 feet above the desert
floor in a remote section of ancient Anasazi territory named Chaco
Canyon stands an imposing natural structure called Fajada Butte. Along a
narrrow ledge near the top of the butte is a sacred Native American
site given the name Sun Dagger that a thousand years ago
revealed the changing seasons to Anasazi astronomers. After the ancient
people abandoned the canyon for unknown reasons 700 years ago the sun
dagger's secret remained hidden except to a special few. In 1977 it was
inadvertently "rediscovered" when known or suspected rock art and
petroglyphs on the butte were being studied and cataloged.
Many years before the rediscovery, I, as a ten-year old boy, joined my Uncle
on what he called a "bio-search" trip to Fajada Butte. My uncle had
field searched thousands and thousands of plants, herbs, and mushrooms,
even to having had several previously undiscovered species named after
him. We had gone to the butte because it has its own micro-climate which
creates an environment that grows a variety of plants used by the
indigenous population for traditional and ritual purposes, plants that
are not generally found on the surrounding plain. Special plants also
grow on the mounds thought to be the one-time homes of the ancient
astronomers. Although others felt that the plants were equally powerful
wherever they grew my uncle thought that the power of the plants was
increased by...
